The 2022 GMC Hummer EV doesn’t have launch control to get the 1,000 horsepower truck from 0 to 60 mph in 3 seconds. No, that’d be too normal. Instead, GMC is calling the procedure “Watts to Freedom.”
Presumably, GMC wanted to call it WTF and they needed something to get past the lawyers. Regardless, here’s the procedure.
After enabling WTF mode, the truck lowers 2 inches to the preferred ride height. The battery system cools. The truck prepares for launch. The driver places their foot on the brake, then buries the accelerator.

When the system and driver is read, the driver releases the brake and the truck launches.
While we haven’t seen it in person yet, we can show you what the procedure looks like on the digital display in the Hummer EV.
GMC hasn’t been clear on how repeatable the performance is, and the time needed between launches to make it all work. However, since the system actively cools the hardware before launch, it might be more repeatable than some other performance EVs.
The idea of a truck this size accelerating that quickly is a bit terrifying, but it should be a heck of a lot of fun. Hopefully we’ll get a chance to try it out soon.
