It was only a matter of time until Toyota expanded its Nightshade series to nearly every model. Now it’s the Prius’ turn and it appears to be the biggest addition to that model’s lineup for the 2022 model year. Currently, the Nightshade edition is available on 10 models across the Toyota lineup. The addition of the Prius would make it the eleventh model to get the blacked-out treatment.
Think of the Nightshade edition model as a cosmetic package on the 2022 Toyota Prius. It’ll retain the same 121-hp 1.8-liter four-cylinder-based hybrid system and exceptional fuel economy but you’ll also get several cosmetic tweaks. The most notable ones will be the black Toyota badges and black alloy wheels. Other cosmetic changes include black side mirror covers, a black shark fin antenna, and black door handles.
Depending on the model, the Nightshade edition is usually based on the SE, XSE, or Limited variants. In the case of the Prius, it could use the range-topping Limited grade as a starting point. That means it’ll get 17-inch black alloy wheels, an 11.6-inch touch screen, a JBL audio system, and a head-up display. Based on the teaser that Toyota released, the Nightshade edition may be limited only to the standard Prius and not the plug-in Prius Prime.
