Supercar Slayer: Hyundai debuts Ioniq 5 N

The rear windshield wiper has returned!

Wait… what?

Today at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Hyundai debuted its high-performance N version of the Ioniq 5. In addition to being designed to be a track slayer, it’s the first E-GMP car from Hyundai Motor to have a rear windshield wiper.

Based on the Ioniq 5, the Ioniq 5 N makes approximately 650 horsepower and approximately 568 lb-ft of torque with the overboost function.

Hyundai claims it’ll do the spring to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds.

The IONIQ 5 N adheres to the three pillars of N: Corner Rascal, Racetrack Capability, and Everyday Sportscar. It features body and chassis reinforcements, Integrated Drive Axles, a high steering ratio, lightweight 21-inch aluminum wheels, a performance braking system, N Brake Regen, and N Drift Optimizer.

The vehicle also has a dedicated cooling system, N Launch Control, N Race, and N Battery Conditioning. It simulates the behavior of an eight-speed dual-clutch N DCT of ICE N models with N e-shift and produces three sounds with N Active Sound +. It comes with Vehicle to Load (V2L) technology and N Road Sense. The vehicle has an 84.0 kWh battery and 800 V battery technology, allowing ultra-fast charging. It provides 480 liters of cargo space and features the Hyundai Connected Car Navigation Cockpit.

This is more than just a copy and paste job from the Kia EV6 GT, with more of a focus on the emotion of driving along with the lap times. One of our biggest complaints about the EV6 GT was a certain lack of fizz. This car appears to have addressed those concerns.

The car should go on sale… sometime. Hyundai hasn’t confirmed those details, or pricing, or range, but we do know we can’t wait to drive it!
