Subaru debuts its second all-electric SUV, the Trailseeker

Subaru of America, Inc. has introduced the 2026 Subaru Trailseeker, its second all-electric SUV, at the New York International Auto Show. This model incorporates a new propulsion system while maintaining the brand’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and recognized safety features. The Trailseeker is set to be available for purchase at retailers across the country in 2026.

The name Trailseeker reflects the SUV’s capability, featuring 8.3 inches of ground clearance and designed to accommodate both passengers and cargo effectively. The vehicle is equipped with two electric motors that generate approximately 375 horsepower and can tow up to 3,500 pounds. The X-MODE Dual-Mode System enhances its off-road capabilities with modes for snow, dirt, and deep snow or mud, along with Grip Control and Downhill Assist Control.

Powered by a 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery, the Trailseeker offers a range exceeding 260 miles on a single charge. Its onboard battery preconditioning system ensures readiness for fast charging in various temperatures, and a standard NACS charging port increases charging options for users on the move.

The vehicle features a unique suspension and all-wheel-drive system designed to enhance stability and control across different terrains. Using acceleration sensors, the Trailseeker optimizes power distribution to the wheels based on driving conditions, improving traction and stability.

Compared to the Subaru Solterra, the Trailseeker has been designed with increased dimensions, being over 6 inches longer and nearly an inch taller. This design allows for a larger cargo area and a more spacious interior, which includes a flat floor and ample legroom, contributing to a bright and open cabin atmosphere.

The exterior design of the Trailseeker includes a new Subaru EV lighting signature, a six-star illuminated logo, redesigned headlamps, and a modern front bumper. The rear features a three-dimensional Subaru logo, enhancing its nighttime visibility.

Inside, the Trailseeker boasts a 14-inch touchscreen, the largest in any Subaru model, with metallic finishes and a wide center console for convenient storage.

The vehicle is also equipped with a comprehensive suite of EyeSight driver-assistance technologies, which include features such as Pre-Collision Braking, Blind Spot Monitors, and Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control, among others. Pricing and further specifications will be released closer to the vehicle’s launch in early 2026.
