Good news for Polestar 2 owners! You now have two years of free charging at Electrify America. Those who just ordered their car will benefit from the perk, too, once they take delivery of their vehicle. Existing owners will get an enrollment code or get them from the Polestar Space where they purchased their car.
For two years, Polestar 2 drivers will get free 30-minute charging sessions at all Electrify America locations. This will give them enough time to recuperate enough energy during long road trips. Drivers will be able to access the free charging perk through the Electrify America app using the enrollment code starting late October.
“We are thrilled to announce this offer for current and future Polestar 2 owners, streamlining the EV ownership experience for our customers,” said Gregor Hembrough, Head of Polestar North America. “Polestar is working continuously to provide customers with substantial new benefits throughout their ownership journey. This offer takes the stress and costs out of charging your Polestar 2.”
This collaboration is the latest addition to Electrify America’s long list of automaker partners. Parent company Volvo has also announced that owners of the XC40 Recharge and the upcoming C40 Recharge will get 250-kWh of complimentary charging at Electrify America stations nationwide. It will also make those owners eligible for the Electrify America Pass+ program at discounted rates once they’ve used up their free charging and Volvo will cover the membership fee for the first year.
Other automakers that get free DC charging at Electrify America stations include Audi where e-tron GT owners get three years. Consumers who buy the Mercedes-Benz EQS and the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5 also get complimentary DC charging for two years just like Polestar 2 drivers. Those who own a 2021 Hyundai Kona Electric and Ioniq Electric get 250-kWh of free charging at Electrify America stations similar to what Volvo offers minus the discounted Pass+ perk. Volkswagen, the parent company of Electrify America, offers three years of unlimited free charging for owners of its ID.4 electric compact crossover.
“At Electrify America, we are constantly challenging ourselves to propel the EV industry forward,” said Giovanni Palazzo, President and Chief Executive Officer of Electrify America. “With expanding EV offerings, it is more important than ever to instill a sense of confidence in new and prospective drivers, and we are excited to work with a like-minded company like Polestar to provide high-quality, accessible charging.”
The Polestar 2 initially launched in dual-motor guise as a well-equipped Launch Edition model with 233 miles of range per charge. For 2022, a single-motor variant joins the more powerful dual-motor model. The former is capable of traveling up to 265 miles on a single charge. Thanks to several over-the-air (OTA) updates, the dual-motor Polestar 2 received a 16-mile range increase to 249 miles. Peak DC charging speeds have also been increased to 155 kW.
This week, a new OTA update improves the Polestar 2’s energy and heat management, which should allow it to travel even farther before needing to charge up. Other improvements include the addition of a range assistant app, an Eco mode for the climate controls, more stable charging, and better regenerative braking. The car can now preheat the battery when you set your destination to a charging station, enabling it to charge faster.
