These days, Tesla and its vehicles are in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. But the Cybertruck has finally undergone crash tests by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the results have been shared with the public. In the frontal barrier test, which simulates a head-on collision at 35 mph, the vehicle received an overall 5-star rating, combining a five-star rating for the driver with a four-star rating for the front passenger.
For side impacts, the Cybertruck was evaluated using two tests. In the side barrier test—designed to mimic an intersection collision at 38.5 mph—both the front and rear seats received five-star ratings. In the side pole test, which simulates a collision with a fixed object at 20 mph while the vehicle is angled at 75 degrees, the Cybertruck again received a five-star rating. Together, these tests resulted in an overall side rating of five stars.
The Cybertruck was also assessed for rollover resistance, a measure of the risk of rollover in a single-vehicle, loss-of-control scenario. In this test, the vehicle received a four-star rating, with a dynamic tip result of “No Tip” and an estimated rollover risk of 12.40 percent.
Overall, the test results indicate that the Tesla Cybertruck meets high safety standards in frontal and side collisions, while the rollover resistance rating is somewhat lower in comparison.
