General Motors opens access to Tesla Supercharger network for EV owners

Starting today, General Motors (GM) has announced that its electric vehicle (EV) customers will now have access to more than 17,800 Tesla Superchargers through the use of a GM-approved NACS DC adapter. This move aims to enhance the availability of fast and convenient charging options for both current and future EV drivers.

By including the Tesla Supercharger Network in its offering, GM customers will have access to a combined total of over 231,800 public Level 2 and DC fast chargers across North America. GM continues to collaborate with various partners to expand EV infrastructure, particularly in communities and high-traffic areas, to support the growing demand for charging stations. The GM-approved NACS DC adapters will first be available to U.S. customers, with Canadian availability expected later in the year.

Wade Sheffer, vice president of GM Energy, highlighted the importance of this initiative, emphasizing GM’s commitment to improving the public charging network as part of the company’s broader vision of an all-electric future. The company’s focus is to provide customers with more accessible charging options, further enhancing the overall experience of transitioning to electric vehicles.

In the U.S., customers will be able to purchase the GM-approved NACS DC adapter through GM vehicle brand mobile applications at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $225 USD. These apps will also allow users to locate Tesla Superchargers, check the status of charging stations, initiate charging sessions, and manage payments.

To ensure a smooth customer experience, GM plans to source the adapters from multiple suppliers. The adapters are designed to meet the North American Charging Standard (NACS), ensuring compatibility between GM EVs and Tesla Superchargers.

Updated: Use of third-party adapters might void your battery warranty. GM is the only automaker to make this statement so publicly so far.
