Cadillac has introduced the SOLLEI concept vehicle, a luxury electric convertible designed to showcase the future of bespoke automotive design. The Sollei, an all-electric 2+2 convertible, features Cadillac’s 55-inch pillar-to-pillar screen, intricate interior and exterior lighting choreography, and intuitive front and rear command consoles. Its name, derived from “sun” (SOL) and “leisure” (LEI), reflects the vehicle’s inspiration for an open-air, leisurely lifestyle.
The design director of Cadillac, Erin Crossley, stated that the Sollei concept reimagines travel, providing a personalized driving experience that connects with the natural world. The vehicle merges Cadillac’s heritage of elegant convertibles with modern luxury through innovative design and experiences.
One of the notable features of the Sollei is its use of Fine Mycelium by MycoWorks, a bio-based material used in the charging mats and door map pockets. This material, developed from the renewable root structure of mushrooms, signifies Cadillac’s commitment to pioneering renewable automotive resources.
The Sollei’s exterior design is characterized by a low, elongated body with a wide stance and long coupe door, facilitating easy access to the rear. The uninterrupted surfaces and stretched A-line emphasize the vehicle’s length, while the low tail design adds dynamic yet elegant proportions. The exterior finish, named “Manila Cream,” is a revival of a color originally used on Cadillacs in 1957 and 1958, meticulously hand-painted by Cadillac craftsmen.
The interior of the Sollei aligns with Cadillac’s “art of travel” philosophy, enhancing the travel experience with features like a fully integrated beverage chiller and crystal glasses. The interior decor includes unstained wood veneers, illuminated decor, and unique embellishments, all contributing to Cadillac’s emphasis on craftsmanship. The windshield is framed in milled brushed aluminum, maintaining the use of natural materials.
The Sollei offers extensive personalization options with ambient lighting featuring 126 color options in multiple zones. Additionally, it includes a unique accessory for bird-watching enthusiasts: a custom case with 3D printed acrylic bird calls, a leather-bound journal, and a leather tool roll, matching the vehicle’s interior.
The Sollei concept emphasizes the optimism of travel with sun-themed features, including sunburst-themed lighting and graphics, a pink iridescent pigment in the Nappa leather interior, and an “Aurora” tint on metal finishes. The vehicle also includes a convertible metallic roof fabric called “Daybreak” and textured floormat material named “Bask,” both contributing to the light and airy feel of the interior.
The Sollei concept was unveiled at Cadillac House at Vanderbilt, located at GM’s Global Technical Center campus in Warren, Michigan. This facility is dedicated to providing a bespoke design experience for Cadillac Celestiq clients, highlighting Cadillac’s vision of offering modern design in an open-air format inspired by iconic Cadillacs of the past.
