The virtual world debut of the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is just a few days away and we got another teaser showing some of the car’s neatest design cues. In a 43-second video posted on YouTube, Hyundai gives us a glimpse of its first dedicated electric vehicle in what appears to be a spy-themed short film. Our biggest take-away from the clip? The Ioniq 5 will hit production nearly unchanged from the 45 Concept that inspired it.
Some of the neatest details can be found within the first half of the teaser. Immediately after the woman, who appears to be the main character, closes the hatch, you get a close-up of the Ioniq 5’s cube-shaped LED daytime running lights complete with the pixel-like details inside each cluster. The video then pans overhead, showing off the solar panels on the roof. That would make the Ioniq 5 the second Hyundai vehicle to get them after the Sonata Hybrid. Other fun exterior details include pop-out door handles that are flush with the body when the car is locked and full-width LED taillights with the same pixel-like look as the headlights accentuated by an LED light strip.
Hyundai gives us a couple of quick teases of the Ioniq 5’s exterior. From what we can tell, the Ioniq 5 appears more like a tall compact hatchback than a rugged SUV, putting it closer to the car end of the crossover spectrum. Most of the design cues from the 45 Concept have carried over nearly untouched and upsized slightly due to the Ioniq 5’s dimensions.
When it finally greets the world in a couple of days, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be the first vehicle on the new E-GMP platform. Single- and dual-motor variants will be available along with two choices for battery sizes. The Ioniq 5 is expected to be able to travel over 300 miles of range with the larger battery.
