GMC revealed the 2022 Hummer EV pickup almost a year ago but we’ve yet to see it flaunt its tricks. Until now that is because spy photographers have caught a 2022 GMC Hummer EV pickup prototype using its four-wheel steering as it makes a left turn into General Motors’ Milford proving grounds. Looking closer at the photos, you can see the rear wheels turned slightly to allow the battery-electric pickup truck to make tighter turns and improve maneuverability.
The only demonstration we’ve seen so far of Crab Walk is in a short 14-second video where the 2022 GMC Hummer EV SUV essentially moves diagonally to get around a parked cargo truck. These shots finally show the feature in its full glory and it looks like it’ll be useful for more than just squeezing out of tight spaces. Four-wheel steering will also allow the Hummer EV to make tighter turns, allowing it to easily navigate small spaces like alleys and narrow streets, especially those in an urban environment.
In addition to seeing four-wheel steering in action, the 2022 Hummer EV pickup prototype is also sporting some accessories. The most visible ones are the roof and bed racks, both of which should allow the truck to carry more gear for outdoorsy adventures or even a tent for camping. GMC’s Multi-Pro tailgate appears to be equipped on this prototype too, as is a tonneau cover.
We expect a full range of accessories to be available on the 2022 GMC Hummer EV. Considering its rugged capabilities and the fact that it’s being pitched as a vehicle for the active types, there will likely be more cool gear to come.
